Who made that Amiga table possible last Revision - was it you Bonefish or Magic? Could be fun if it could also happen in 2016.

yep, i would be more than happy if we're going to repeat it this year.

but not to forget what blueberry said - let's try to grab a set of tables that looks towards the big screen, or at least the half of row with tables on both sides.
(last year i was there on time, but got stuck at the entrance for an extra half an hour - due to some strange bug, if you had Y or Z in your barcode on prepaid ticket, you were out of luck).

Deadguy and me are booking a room for 4 people at Hotel Crystal. Two beds are taken.

The room is 160 Euro per night. You do the math. :)

Any takers?

dodke: although we handled this on IRC I'll answer here as well to avoid looking like an ignorant bastard. ;)

We managed to find people quite quickly, but they haven't confirmed 100%. I'll keep your contact information and get back to you as soon as I have further information.

Our goal is obviously to fill all four slots to cut the cost, but I get that it can be quite awkward to share a bed (although quite wide and with separate sheets) with someone you don't know that well.

I tried to change the doubles to singles, but the hotel then changed the reservation to four single rooms instead and we almost lost the room. I'm not taking that risk again.

In short: If you manage to find someone willing to share a bed your odds get better.

Well SaVannaH is also coming to Revision, so as long as we have two passports, we should be OK.

So, the rulechanges....apart from moving a500 4k into the combined 64k compo, they seem to make good sense I think. But I would be very surprised if there will be a single a500 4k this year.

Well, the idea was to move all Amiga entries back in the Amiga compos (where they belong, IMO). We have dedicated compos for the platform, therefore people should compete there. But this was a pretty heated discussion in the orga team, and everything can be improved really... I insisted on the rule change, because this Amiga 500 demo split what happened last year was a proper nightmare on multiple levels... So after a lot of arguments, this is what we came up with for this year. It's not perfect...

Anyway, if someone makes an OCS 4K, we can still make an exception and allow it in the normal Oldschool compo. Especially if the Amiga intro compo has enough entries otherwise.

But feedback is very much welcomed on this.

To be honest, I wouldn't spend time making an OCS 4k, if I couldn't be 100% sure that it will compete in the correct compo. And having it compete with 060 64k-intros is a big no-no, at least for me :)

I think you should make it a rule and state it clearly on the website if you'd like to have A500 entries in the oldschool 4k.

I am also firmly in the "OCS is oldskool" camp. In all respects other than the name on the box, an A500 has more in common with other oldskool platforms than it has with 060 Amigas.

It was a bit of a mess with the A500 demos last year, admittedly. So maybe for the demos, bundling all Amiga entries together makes sense. But it is a dire situation for OCS 4ks indeed...

I guess the cleanest solution (the one that gives the most consistent setup) would be to add an Amiga 4k compo, but there will probably not be much left of the oldskool 4k then (but this is no different from having the Amiga 4ks in the 64k compo). One argument for such a compo could be to open up the stage for AGA 4ks, but those haven't exactly been the most prolific kind of prods in latest years either. Maybe because they lacked a suitable compo - who knows?

So the pragmatic solution, taking into account the expected number of productions in each category, would be to invite OCS 4ks into the oldskool 4k compo. Essentially status quo for 4ks.

i just want to add here that i'm really not too hyped about this revision's compo update.

when i got back to amiga scene, 2 years ago, we had several parties to release amiga ocs productions. amazing datastorm, revision with oldskool compo and assembly with oldskool compo, just to name a few bigger ones.

fast forward to today, in 2016 we have ZERO bigger parties that has "ocs friendly" compos. personally, I'm really not that much into competitions (released ~15 simple releases last year outside the parties), but it does motivate people to make a great releases. look at the c64 and X party, or atari and silly venture.

and competing with A500 releases against AGA, well... it's just crazy. anyone who did something on amiga probably knows why, but here it is again:
sysinfo, speed test,:
A500 - 530 drystones
A1200 (vanilla) - 1280 drystones
A1200 + 060@66MHz - 49xxx drystones
(yes, compo standard 060@66MHz is 92x faster than A500)
+ not to forget 256MB instead of 1Mb segmented RAM, HDD instead of 880kb floppy, and not only within the code, 256 colors instead of 32, streamed music instead of tracked, ...

all that said, i'm quite concerned that ocs scene will slowly die, and it just started to get going.

---
i'll leave you with some statistics for the end...

AGA releases per year (source: pouet.net)
2010: 31 releases
2011: 20 releases
2012: 24 releases
2013: 33 releases
2014: 36 releases
2015: 31 releases
(obvious stagnation here)

OCS releases per year (source: pouet.net)
2010: 22 releases
2011: 40 releases
2012: 39 releases
2013: 55 releases (21% released at FAP)
2014: 81 releases (21% released at Datastorm)
2015: 117 releases (!!!!)
(amazing growth here)

so, to change any compo in favour to the AGA, obviously makes sense. or maybe...?
