The previous Breakpoint/Revision threads have always been fun to follow and read so here is the official Revision 2014 thread. The traditional easter demoscene party is being held from 18 until 21 april.

Any hot rumors, traditional project planning notes and updates or tales of deadline stress and last minute panic attacks,... is welcome :)

Well, behind schedule again as I have spent time on a demo for Datastorm. That demo, however,is postponed (not for Revision),so well...I want to release something, but at the time of writing I don't know what it's going to be.Need somebody that can do sound and somebody that can do artdirection, but that is not on stock at the moment.

I'll probably only make an OCS 4k-intro this time, if I can find someone to make a good track :)

Britelite and I have a standing "oldskool 4k" challenge for next Revision.

As for my own progress, I have written some basic rendering code, and the rest is at the idea stage. Also need to finish something for DATASTORM first (and a cruncher, and...)

Blueberry,yeah...the schedule you told me about is rather big,I'd say.Is the cruncher ready before DS?I'm doing a 64k for that party, and it could be fun to try out the cruncher for that.If you need some betatesting I can also help out,as I have lots of intro sources lying around.

We have 6 screens ready so it must be possible to finish the demo for the Revision. I will do lot of effort the first month of the year to finish all screens and we will try to focus on the design-synchro for other months.

Corial: Work on the cruncher is progressing well - I will probably have something ready for beta testing within a few weeks.

I want to go for 64k again.
Currently in the process of drawing the storyboard, giving Novel listening examples for the soundtrack.
Next few days I'll be fondling around with FX from the codebase trying to make 'em better.

...hmm, I do like that pre-64kcompo vodka+fruit plate, Michael....but I guess that also means making a 64k :-D. So, a Brite vs. Berry ocs 4k compo, Dodge vs. Corial 64k compo and Jamie vs. the world demo compo!

As for rumors... After this year's comps, by the bonfire, I distinctly heard Elude and TBL challenge each other for next year's demo compo. ;)

I'd really like to see the comebackers of 2010/2011 come back again in 2014, in particular Haujobb, Ozone and Desire (seems Skarla is on it this year). And why not some of the polish groups like Whelpz? And Dodke though i think i have given up hope for that to happen right about now :) Also, it would be ace if Traction amiga and ADF lighten up the democompo after the awesome FAP performances. And tbl, spaceballs, elude, tulou, up rough, ghostown, madwizards,...

Well, i'm allowed to dream for a moment. Back to reality...

Corial, right ... PRE- compo vodkas would be devastating, unless everything is finished already at arrival, which in turn could lead adopted Focus Design members to sleep through competitions ;)

Would be a hoot to see TBL back in the ring again ... as well as all the other Swedes

The Swedes (well, at least a couple of us) are coming!

Hotel reservations are made, but since Ryanair decided to cancel all flights from Gothenburg to Frankfurt, we have no real travel plan at the moment.

bstrr: that is a considered way of travel, but it's not really geographically convenient, and a plane ticket is about the same price and also a lot more time efficient. I admit the company would've been awesome though. :) Hopefully we'll get a nice shuttle from the airport too.

Btw Wasp - I'll be landing in Frankfurt/Main around 11,so if you guys are down there around the same time,we can get a few beers on the shuttle :-). Is it you and Deadguy?

Yes, it's (at least) me and deadguy. We've zoomed in on a flight arriving at 14:10. We'll probably book tickets soon, or perhaps sometime early next year. ;) We'll see what the shuttle bus roulette outcome will be.

Just curious - how one makes a sound to an a500 4k intro? I'm pretty sure one of you (Jagoda or Halina) explained it to me already, but apparently I wasn't paying enough attention ;)

Corial: That would be great! Btw, are you traveling with Air Berlin or something similar, and have a stopover in Berlin?

d0DgE: About the Swedes, I really hope so too =)

Jazzcat: There are many ways to do it. Here is one, which is similar to how I did it for Ikanim (it was not an A500 intro, but the same technique could be used):

1. Devise some method for generating instrument samples from a few parameters using very little code. The parameters can be tweaked by the musician to obtain the desired instruments.

2. Using these instruments, make some music in Protracker using a very restricted set of effect commands (more commands require more code in the intro, and thus more space).

3. Write a conversion program which converts the Protracker module into a compact format to be embedded in the intro.

4. The data embedded in the intro consists of two parts: the parameters for the instruments, and the compact representation of the pattern data.

5. The code in the intro similarly consists of two parts: code for generating the instruments, and code for replaying the music from the compact format.

Variations are possible, of course, but this is a typical starting point. Britelite can probably say something more concrete, as he has actually made an A500 4k before, in contrast to me. ;)

The thing I did with my previous A500 4k-intro was to use music data from tunes made in Fisichella, an editor on the vic-20. The format itself is pretty limited and compact (all data fits in under 512 bytes), and the player to play these files also fit in under 512 bytes, making the whole player+data under 1k.

My next demo is ~40% effects complete, but there is 0% chance of it being done for Revision - I'm not even sure I'll make it to the party yet as I kinda forgot to do any work during the last month (started Xmas early :P) and now have to catch up!

Corials' doing tons of good stuff for Revision, and I'm helping out a bit as well. I'm also doing stuff myself, and the current status:

Productions: 0%
Registered on the Revision website: 100%
Probability that I'll get stuff released: 0%+100% = 100%
