As if it needs reminding:

Breakpoint 2008, quite early this year, from 21 to 24 March.

Hm, I can't go to the party this time :-(. I'll have to watch the compos on demoscene.tv instead.

I will be there, and I will bring another fresh Amiga 4k as usual. And so should you - all of you! ;)

Just tell me where to find a 68060 amiga that does not feel like a rip off and I may try, too...

Honestly, Azure, if i wasn't afraid that my card wouldn' survive transport, i'd lend it to you. But that doesn't help... i know

Btw, what price do you consider a rip-off? There is one on ebay.de for 230 euro.

z5 are you making it this year? Would be really ace to meet in IRL and I am sure going to BP will motivate your coding a lot.

Well, to be honest, at some point last year i was actually hoping that finally i would realise my 17 year old dream of coding something for release. I had enough "code" (cough) and ideas for a small dentro. It was really basic, had no graphics and music yet though. It had no real "effects" and would probably have been crap. But i had ideas for design, transitions, ... and was hoping that with some good graphics and music, it would be alright for a first prod. I had enough for about 5 parts, but all in the same "theme"... again, extremely simple code though. At least, it didn't have a starfield :o)

However, i had some troubles with my code and especially my code not getting on with wickedos (the demosystem that i used). As wickedos was a black box to me, i never figured out the cause of it (i had 3 problems). So i had to start from scratch with my own demosystem (startup, c2p, copperlists, double buffering) so i gave up... again. Burried my dream for the "i lost count how many times"th time. Besides, i was going to be crucified for releasing something so simple that needed an 68060 (due to triple buffer nature of the screenmode i was using... at least a think so).

I'm not searching excuses though. I always had the feeling that i wouldn't be any good anyway. Mastering assembler and democoding takes a huge effort and dedication, plus brains. With the idea of being crap at it, it seems pointless to invest time in it.

I envy you lot, as a non-productive outsider. Let's face it, how many people get the change to:
- be creative and make something based on your own ideas
- work together with other people and seeing it come together as a demo
- be able to present your work on a bigscreen for a big bunch of people
- getting recognition for your work (if it's good :o)) and the fact that people out there will watch your productions when the years pass by

I just wish my mum and dad mounted a math-coprocessor in my brain when i was born :o)

Oh no, z5. Never give up, never surrender!
Is there any point in asking what problems you had with my demo system?

All the errors i had were actually posted in the wickedos thread at various points in time.

anyway, i don't want to hijack this breakpoint 2008 thread. You should all realise how great it is that you mastered the art of assembler and all create loads of nice productions :o)

z5, you have managed to gather virtually all active Amiga coders around you, many of which are eager to help. Giving up does not make sense. :)

Anyway, come to Breakpoint, and I promise you I will get you up and running using a no-nonsense combination of basic startup, c2p, screen update and music replay code, or whatever it takes. You will be amazed what can be achieved by a few hours of face-to-face code explanation.

See, even better. You would get a personal explanation from an active coder!
Am I right in asking for a Blueberry and z5 release at BP?
Anybody else thinks the same?

Sounds tempting but seriously, i've laid my dream to rest. As said, the most important reason remains the fact that i would never be able to release anything advanced or good anyway.

So back ontopic now :o)

Isn't discussing what to do at (or for) Breakpoint 2008 on-topic in a Breakpoint 2008 thread? :)

Anyway, for a push on the Amiga release front for BP08, go find a 060 card for Azure and pray that I get mine to work.

As a sidenote and as a result of this thread, i sent bonkers a small preview of a little thing i coded because i needed a second opinion (before ditching the project altogether). He hasn't replied yet, which means:
1) bonkers hasn't recovered from the crapness of my prod
2) the prod doesn't start on his amiga, whatever he tries (don't worry, it most certainly has nothing to do with your amiga, but all with my code)
3) he is trying to find a way to say "it's crap" without hurting my feelings
4) bonkers hasn't checked his mail in the last week

I have a feeling that it's going to be 1 to 3 or a combination :o)

Anyway, bonkers, if you read this, there was mail in your tulou.org mailbox.

@z5,

None of the above is actually true. I have my amiga at work, so took a few days for me to try the executable. Will reply to you later today or tomorrow, sorry for the delay. I can say for now that it looks really cool.

@malmix: was that a serious rumour post (meaning are these actually rumours or was that a joke post?). In any case, i don't believe in any of those but one: Andromeda... but on pc. That's certain.

There is a Blizzard 1260 on ebay.com at the moment, auction ending in 5 days from now. Just search for "amiga blizzard" and it will show up. It is currently at around $150, but it probably will get more expensive as the bidding deadline approaches... Good luck. ;)

Dalton or Alkaron was talking about some 80 MHz 060 Board manufacturing company.. I believe they were called something basic. Like Just Nu Dator or Presis Klokkverk Komputer or something.

If you read about which groups are going to participate in the pc demo compo, it's going to be a blast.

Which groups are entering the Amiga and PC compos z5 ?

I think Andromeda might do well if they enter the PC compo again. Would be nice to see TBL release on Amiga again as well.

I hope there is a decent stream like last years Breakpoint. That was the first time I'd seen a demo competition live and I thought it rocked !
