Hi guys,

first of all I wanna say thank you for this great site! It's really a pleasure browsing it...all those classic amiga demos, brilliant! And the new stuff is even better...keep it going, please!!

And now back to my topic...yeah, I can't watch this masterpiece on my WinUAE 1.4! I'm running AmigaOS3.9 with AHI4 installed. I selected the 68040 CPU with 256MB Z3-Fast RAM. Before starting the demo I do the following with the included files:

assign ENV: gift/env
assign DEVS: gift/devs
C:AddAudioModes

But the demo hangs up every time when the de-crunching process is supposed to start...no chance to get it done! I tried both included files...crunched and not crunched. Always the same result...the screen freezes!

Has anyone a solution for this? Or a suggestion? I'd really appreciate it! Thanx in advance!

Best regards

Hi Toffeeman,

thanx for your answer! Yes, I know..."Planet Potion" is a PPC one! But I'm talking of "Gift"...is this also a PPC demo? Actually not, or am I wrong?

Nevertheless thanx for the reply...I hope someone else could give me an advice! ;)

Best regards

Gift is NOT a ppc-demo. I've had it work in winuae, can't remember if I did something special though. :)

I have it working on my setup. I think it's best to boot into workbench (i use a simple 3.1 wb) and you definately need ahi 4, otherwise it doesn't start. Also, try using different kickstarts. I seem to remember that it needed 3.1 kickstart.

If it doesn't work, i can post my winuae settings here tonight. It is definately worth spending some time searching for a solution. The intro is just incredible.

Hey z5,

you made it, dude!!! :-) It's running...at last!!! Weeeee...awesome!!!

What was wrong? Well, AmigaOS3.9...if you ask me! I installed AHI4 in a plain WB 3.1 - as you told me - and that was absolutely it! Great, z5! You have made my day! :-)

Best regards from Germany

Great that it is working! Gift still is my favourite non-PPC intro. Nothing comes close imo.

I have fixed Gift once, there is some bug (some register assumed to have special content iirc) which prevents it from running. I'll see if I still have the fix somewhere. You have to wait after BP for that though. :)

It's not an OS 3.9 only problem. It's result of lousy coding for the progress bar! :-)

@StingRay, z5
hahaha...you have to be kidding me...the coding of the progress bar is the prob? ^^ ok, have to say sorry to my OS 3.9...but i was so pissed, coz i tried everything to get this demo running...and it ended always in a freeze! but z5 sort things out for me...sometimes the solution can be that easy! :-)

enjoy your time at BP...and take some nice files with ya, guys!

you definitely rock! :-)

z5: i still have a lot "to do" fixes on my list :P

joker18: Yep, funny, isn't it? :P The progress bar is the almost only systemfriendly code in that very intro and since democoders tend to suck at doing systemfriendly code, it is buggy. :D It uses some graphics.lib function to draw the bar/window and this is where the problem is. Actually, I only fixed it because I was pretty tired of having to disable all patches resp. boot w/o startup-sequence to see the intro. :)
