Finnaly, I will not go there due to professional stupid reasons. ( I previously stated I would )... there will be bla, another mankind member. He was preparing a karate amiga demo, using the effects released last year in karate 1.2 , which was still never used by a karate prod. But this prod is late, and would just have been a "hello people" demo. We also have a great PC intro in the pipe, which is 99% done, but our star gfxman zaac couldn't be contacted to put his final "seal of quality" on it.
...I'm crossing a quite sad period in my life also, and couldn't produce much in the past monthes. As a megalomaniac, I started a really big multiplatform demo project, including a complete secial framework object management, and a sort of complete rewrite of SDL to. I've been working on it since one year. Actually, it is all working OK since 5 monthes, I guess only 2 more month of good work will give something.

For those sitting at home waiting (like me...): the 4k compo was cancelled because there was only one entry (from Loonies), which competed in the 64k compo instead.

All intros (both 4k and 64k) can be found here: Breakpoint releases

well, just watched the live stream of the amiga democompetition.

It seems there were 4 fantastic demos released (hard to tell though with the video quality): IRIS, Tulou, TBL and Ephidrena (though the TBL demo didn't seem that spectacular as previous years).

Just watched the IRIS demo... I'm in IRIS and I didn't see this until it was released!

Ahh well... I am *SO* proud we won, and I am once again amazed by Dr. Dooms skillz!

Looks like a good Amiga demo compo this year!

@winden:

For some reason, i had hoped/thought Network would make a big comeback on the Amiga scene at BP2006...

yes, i know, but i had the fortune to spend a bit of quality time with amigascne people at breakpoint so even if i didn't contribute any demos right now, there is hope on me for some on the future (i'm all wasted from travel sorry).

Ey, I just wanted to write here and there that we have now released a final version of our demo, working with only 25mb of RAM and a bit more compatible with UAE. Iseem to recall that z5 for instance doesn't have that much RAM, hehe..

Get it at www.irishq.dk

@Darkhawk:

Could you please tell me how you configured UAE to run the demo? I get a few beep sounds and then the Guru meditation comes rushing to my screen.

shut up Darkhawk... :) This is, after all, the amiga scene. We aren't supposed to have loads of RAM and other fancy thingies... :) In any case, yes the demo crashed again on my setup but i had already come to terms with the fact that IRIS demos don't run on my setup anymore... undoubtly because of my crap setup. But hey, cool to see this fixed version.

While IRIS is still in victory mood, how about a fixed version of Heartcore?

@Corial:

The same here - it doesn't work on my two computers running UAE, only on my A4k. It's more the fault of different PC hw interacting with WinUAE than it is the fault of a wrong setup it seems. I've seen this quite often - different hw makes WinUAE produce different results. It works on Dr. Doom and Nutman's UAE's for instance.

@z5:

Actually I think it is rather poor if demos need too much RAM. Just a sign that they do faking and animations. So I'm happy that we could easily reduce our RAM usage to 'just' 25 mb.. Which is of course, still astronomically more than an A500 demo took ;) Anyway, can you run the demo on your setup now? We did it just for you, y'know ;)

Well, I have to say, the party was great. I saw many many Amigas this time (I think it was less last year). And also some freaks with a big Amiga flag in front of the stage.

Sure.. i believe it :) Anyway, it doesn't work. In fact, it works even less than the first version. The demo freezes when the IRIS logo is about to land into the scene (i wonder if the one thing is the result of the other :)).

In fact, it is exactly the same problem as Heartcore. Starts perfectly, then just freezes (no corruption or anything, just a frozen ok image) and the music keepes playing happily until the end... (didn't wait that long though).

Strange really as about any other demo released since 1996 works and my setup is really simple. A bummer :(

Hrmm.. z5.. Are you running kick 3.1? WB 3.9? Try without that, this worked for me, and I had the exact same problem on my A4k.. Usually what you describe happens when you run both Heartcore and Kil0fix with WB3.9 or if you don't have enough RAM..

If that's not it, I guess I should really go bug Dr. Doom

Concerning Kilofix, as i don't seem to be the only one with the freeze bug, i wonder if there is anything i could do to try and help finding the cause of the problem?

@z5: kilofix
So I try it without datacache and then it freezes as you described. So maybe thats your problem, if yes than simply activate datacache in your cpu setup.

Thanks for the tip. I have a shell command for my cpu settings and i always use cpu60 b(est). I think this enables datacache but i'll experiment with some different settings.

@z5

hehe, same problems as for Heartcore I see...

well, you should try a minimal setup to understand what's wrong imho.

i'd recommend to boot from a clean 3.1 setup with 060 libs only and the right setpatch (latest 3.1 68060 version should be 43.6) and Oxypatcher of course. If you have room enough on you hdd, you can do a secondary boot partition and select it from early startup menu

Corial: I had exactly the same problem. Then I just increased the frameskip in UAE and it worked. :) Might work for you as well. :)
