There was always a breakpoint thread so tradition continues with the new easter party at Germany. Point your browser to Revision 2011

Seems there is a separate amiga demo compo but the 64k + 4k seem merged into an oldskool intro compo mixed with other platforms.

I know that it is a loss for the Amiga intro compos but looking at last years release numbers by cutting out the gracious composavers I can understand the organisers.

Heck, perhaps it will become the 2nd coolest compo of the whole party, right after the Amiga Demo compo ofcourse, and hopefully even before the current 2nd best compo - the Real Wild Hardware.
I really hope that some Atari, C=64 and MSX, CPC you name it guys come up with intros.

I think that's a positive merge... The Amiga intro compos has been far from exciting at most of the Breakpoint's... I mean as competitions, there has been some very cool productions. The Atari scene seems to be going relatively strong again so I hope for a good old Amiga vs Atari battle! :P

Yes, well, the oldschool intro compos (esp. on C64, but Amiga had problems too) weren't sustaining themselves, there were almost always problem with the number of entries (and if not, then with the quality of the entries). On the other hand, we were under constant pressure in the past years, to allow/invite more platforms, and to separate old school/new school stuff around the Real Wild compo. The current arrangement looked like the best compromise. At least the best we could come up with.

If it doesn't work out, well, there's still a chance to try something else next year. :) But I really hope it will. I'm really glad you think positively about this change, thanks. :)

I, too, think dropping the amiga specific intro compo is probably for the better. The 'oldskool intro' compo will hopefully be more enjoyable and more quality-dense.

I have another idea about how to organize compos in general for a demoparty. Now I'm not in the organizing team of any party so guess it doesn't make much difference, but perhaps someone else will find it appealing.

One of the problems with the compos at breakpoint I think was that the oldskool platforms sometimes did not really have enough entries for interesting competition. At the same time, 8-bit demos competed with xbox in the wild compo. It would've made more sense to put the 8-bit demos with the c64 in a combined 8-bit category. So my idea is to take this reasoning a little further, dividing all platforms into 3 or 4 categories.

*A low-end/8-bit category for c64, spectrum, gameboy, etc.
(*Possibly a low/mid-end category for amiga 500 and 16-bit consoles like snes and megadrive)
*A mid-end category for amiga 1200, gba, sub-pentium PC
*A high-end category for modern pc/mac and consoles

For each of these categories: demo, intro and 4k as usual

Dalton: I've been naging the BP orgas to do a Amiga vs Atari compo for years :)
But keep the Old PCs out of it. I really hate the "oldskool" compo at assembly that allows CPUs from a certain year.

Well, there seems to be some changes... 8 bit people realized, they don't wanna compete against Blueberry's 4K *evil grin*, and 64K intros in general, so the Amiga Intro is back, although combined, with any Amiga entries accepted up to 65536 bytes. So 64K coders can have their asses kicked by Blueberry again. :)

The Oldschool Intro is now an Oldschool 4K Intro, with platforms ranging from C64 to Amiga ECS (yes, ECS only), including the Atari ST, and Z80 based computers. An Amiga ECS 4K entry (if there will be one, I highly doubt) can choose if they want to enter Amiga Intro or Oldschool 4K Intro.

If there's still a high demand for Atari vs. Amiga, make ST/ECS 4Ks or make interrested Atari coders to contact me directly, maybe we can arrange them to be allowed in the Amiga Intro, with Falcon entries if they want it, but we have to discuss that first.

Charlie: Are those changes announced anywhere? I don't see anything of that sort on the homepage, or on Pouet.

I assume you will be organizing the Amiga compos? :-D

Any idea when there will be an official announcement regarding these intro compos?

Blueberry:

I think these changes haven't been announced yet officially. They're about to go official along with the rest of the detailed compo rules soonish. And yes, I'm the Amiga orga this year again.

Good luck with your productions - I am most likely not participating in any compos this time, due to a serious lack of sparetime, which does not seem to get any better here in February :-(. Next compo for me will then be the 64k compo at TRSAC....

Corial, pity you and Optima aren't doing anything. You seemed really keen on going to an easter party a short while ago. Your prods shall be missed.

I quite sure that we'll see another fine batch of Amiga prods this Easter too.Since we are not going to the party,it does not make sense for us to compete.Seeing your stuff on a bigscreen is the climax of the whole work....and I don't think it is that particulary interesting only to see your stuff on the stream.I am going to TRSAC and therefore we will release it there.Dodge, any plans on going this year aswell?

Still in the progress of "gathering the portfolio" here. This weekend I think I'll be completing the first scene ... the project itself is more or less thought through by now (in the head ).
Novel in time has provided the basic structure for the soundtrack.
Let's see if my Kung-Fu can keep up with the imagination :D
