Hi Guys
Thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Ian aka Hoffman. Some of you might know me as the musician dreamfish! from various UK groups such as Mono, Divine, TRSI, Defekt, ermmm.. oh and of course Hydlide of Quartz!
Recently bought another A1200 and have started getting back into coding. Got a few ideas for demo / music disk projects on the go, well, when I say on the go, I mean I have some ideas, just need to get coding them.
Just saying Hi for now while i read through the Amiga hardware Reference Manual and try and get my first playfield up and running.
Laters.

hi hoffman! A warm welcome and always great to see demosceners return, a trend that seems to be growing in the last years. Can you list some of the demos you have been involved in as musician in the past?
Great to hear that you're getting back into coding. Feel free to use the forum for any coding related question you have. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll see something emerge from you demowise in the future.

Yes, a new Amiga coder has entered the building.Welcome Hoffman!Do you already have a demosystem up and running, and now you produce effects?I can only recommend making chunky based effects since it is much easier. At least that's what I think. People are friendly here at ada,at help is not far away,if you get stuck.I wish you pleasant codingsessions on this nice machine!

Well, I've got a couple of things kinda planed, but I'm heading for a more old skool / ECS style approach. Nothing too clever or too stunning, however I'm big on sync to music effects, always found them much more impressive that a slow moving textured cube. My first idea, once i've got my playfield code sorted, i'm going to do a routine for drawing and scrolling through tracker patterns. This will form the end part of a long player music disk i'm putting together aswell. As for past productions where I was a musician.. heres a few. http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=15951http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=33318http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=4303

Heya h0ffman! :-)
Really glad to hear you're gonna be going for it again with your coding - looking forward to seeing the results!
Just make sure you leave some time for that tracking we discussed! :-D

That's cool, it seems that there are several old sceners that will try to do something in 2011 with their amiga :-) Normally I'll get mine in a couple of weeks, just after christmas !! If everything works fine and get not bored by the old-way of coding, I will try to release something in 2011 (because it's a perfect excuse for a trip to a party :-) )

hi skp (aka Scorpion/Silicon i presume?) and welcome.
Nice to see you're going to have another go at coding on the Miggy. Naturally, it would be super great to see a new prod from you in 2011. I don't know if you aware of it, but some groups that released prods from when you were active (round 1997-98 ish) made a comeback last year with new demos after more than 10 years of inactivity: Ozone, part of Haujobb and Desire. Also, Skarla has been working on a new demo for the last couple of years so with a bit of luck, we'll see it in 2011 aswell.
Anyway, i hope you refind fun in coding on Amiga :)

What, it's Scorpion / Silicon?

corial: yes I'm (was?) scorpion / silicon, even if nowadays I'm not a big fan of the 'scorpion' handle... (Mostly because i never liked people asked me if I was a fan of Mortal Kombat :-/ )
z5: I do not have seen most of the 'recent' demos, but I've started watched them using the 'news' part of ADA ;-) And god, if the Jamie gang team come back it can add a cool motivation for enter the competition (even if I know Jamie will kick my ass ;-) )
I'm now nearly sure I will have fun coding amiga hardware, yesterday I've read the famous "How to code" doc, and well that strange how memory come back really fast !! The only hard thing is the amiga environment in itself that can be hard to use after coding so many years on modern IDE...

@drareg: nice to see you on here. The Ozone comeback was seriously awesome and unexpected.
I'm curious about the cracktros style stuff. It's not the sort of style i would associate Ozone with so it's interesting :)

I confirm what Drareg said, back to code is possible :-) (And hope to see more stuff from Ozone in 2011)

Yeah....we r working on a demo, but obviously nowadays we r more busy with other stuff than 15 years ago, so things move more slowly. But the important thing is to keep the scener spirit alive. I open an event in Facebook, in the C64/Amiga scene group, for an old skool cracktro compo (no aga). This is an easy way to re-start coding, pixeling and composing, bcos a cracktro is just one simple effect, with text and chiptune.
This is like when u start biking again....u need easy and clear targets to get motivation and start running again ;)
So, if u want an excuse to re-start into the demoscene again, join the challenge of making a cracktro. Also very valid for newbies ;)

As cracktros and bitplane graphics / custom chip bashing stuff is my favourite stuff I've gotta say that one's cool. Lovely cracktro. Keep it up! :)
Are you still running your cracktro compos...? That style of stuff is the main thing I code. I'd like to enter. :)

dreamfish? that name sounds familiar. :) didn't you do an Amiga .mod remix of Sweet Love by Anita Baker once? i listened to that like a million times, even recorded it to old cassette tape and shared it with friends at school. lol anyway, wb - even if it's not you.
