Hi. First of all, I really like this site. There is just one thing, which I find a little too static about the site. Namely the Top 10 chart in the right hand side of the screen. Most of the productions are very old, and have been present in the Top 10 chart forever now. No doubt that these productions deserve all the respect in the world, but for me as a current user of ADA, it becomes a little boring always to see the same names there.

I am not saying that the Top 10 chart should disappear, not at all. I would just like to have a more dynamic list. One of the few things I like about Pouet is the "top of the month" list. Of course the release frequency of Amiga productions is too low to have a "top of the month", but maybe a top of the year would be more suitable? It would be nice to be able to filter the chart aswell, in order to get a "best 40k", "best 64k", "best 4k", "best demo" and so forth.

And just for the record: I know that I can click "More charts" to find more information. But a "top of the year" (or something similar) on the startpage would just a nice improvement.

Good idea, though the amount of voters is not what it used to be (which is mainly due to me neglecting the site a bit too much in recent years i guess) so the top 10 year might not be representative.

As far i'm concerned, the feature is in but you've got to ask todi (and his time is very limited at the moment).

I think non representive (or less representive) charts could actually motivate more people to vote... If a bad demo appears in the top 10 people will most likely be willing to change that by voting. This happens quite often in the top demos on csdb for instance.

But that could lead to people giving worse (or better) votes than the demo deserve, just to manipulate the position in the charts, just like on CSDB :)

There has been some strange voting going on for the main charts here too but on very few occasions and it's virtually impossible to determine if that really was the case anyway. Also, the number of votes plays a major role in the final vote and isn't considered in the ada charts (the only limit is that 20 votes are needed to appear in the charts). I once did an alternative chart page with a system that took into account the number of votes but the end result wasn't all that different though.

Anyway, charts are merely an indication anyway. I think all 721 prods on here are worth checking out (and so are tons of prods who aren't on here). It's a bit of fun. Though i can understand that somebody who be happy and proud if his/her production was placing high in the charts. Even more so on Pouet because it has a considerably larger user base.

I don't know... do you sceners find it important to place high in the charts here or on pouet? Just curious.

Well, I'm not on any charts, at least not that I know of, so it's selfevident that it is not important for me. I just find it a little tiresome to always (minus Ikadalawej9wejfwjfweiofj or what ever Blueberry's 4k is called :-) ) see the same static list when I visit the site. I mean, new stuff IS released. No, we don't have the same amount of releases as in the nineties, and no, the voter base is far from impressive.

My suggestion is to have a top-10 list containing:
The most voted entries for the current year. Yes, an entry with e.g. 2 votes should be allowed to pop up. Who cares about faked votes, when it's only this year's productions (which are also present on ADA), which are represented? The Amiga scene is so small now, and it seems that everybody more or less knows everybody, and I won't try to invent a problem regarding faking votes.

I personally think that it would make the site a little more alive on the frontpage - that's all :)

And just to back up why entries with only a few votes, should be on the list: Superoriginal only has 3 votes, Prototype 1 only has 13 votes and Dust has 10 votes. You cannot argue that these productions aren't great and should have a chance to be represented in this year's top list. They suffer from the much smaller voter base, and that's a little sad, as they represent some of the great releases we have had this year already.

Perhaps an "underdog list" would be a good additional thing.
For instance, list the 10 productions that have only 2-5 votes and an average of higher than 3.5 or so, and thereby give visitors a chance to either find a "hidden gem" or "even out" some vote averages.

A similar thing happens regularly on Nectarine ( scenemusic.net ) when registered listeners request tunes that have either NO vote or are - in their perspective - terribly undervoted.

Another thing could be the expansion of the random production section.
ATM this is only 1 prod per post-request.
With a little modification to the layout it may be possible to display 5 prods randomly chosen
from the database.

I agree with the fact that the main page is too static. Maybe it should be developed into a proper front-end like Pouet.

Top 10 this year is fine with me and so are other suggestions (like expansion of random production section).

The problem is that i'm not really in charge anymore and development of the site is out of my hands and in a state of limbo at the moment. In fact, i'd love to see the site evolve beyond what i did with it and with the ideas of the visitors, but there's not much i can do.

In the end, it would be great if todi sort of got involved in these discussions but his time is severly limited at the moment, due to other things in life. In any case, i can't speak in todi's place so i'll shut up already.

I know that answer sucks but it's pretty much how things are at the moment.

Yepp, my time is limited right now, my new born daughter takes up pretty much 100% of my time, when i'm not at work.
But me and z5 have discussed some other small changes, so keep this thread going and i may get the chart thing done when I start with those changes.

I agree with everything that has been said above :)
I think a Top 10 for <insert current year here> would be a great idea, and would make it easier to find recent demos that are worthy of viewing (and see what competition I am up against!)
