Is anyone interested in taking over or helping out ada in the future? In the last years, i have seen my motivation to update the site getting lower so i'm now faced with the the following options: - let the site die (take it offline) - keep the site as it is now (without much activity, which is kind of a shame) - check if there is interest to continue the site (maybe with a couple of moderators)
I'm going to keep the question and decision open for a couple of weeks. But if anyone is really motivated and interested, i'd be willing to consider giving it away.
Keep in mind that the development is already out of my hands. The best solution would probably be to build some admin tools and appoint some motivated admins. I'd still be interested in being admin myself and help out here and there (I haven't lost my love/interest for the demoscene btw.).
I was going to write some more lines with a bit of background history and on what the foundations and vision were behind the site but for now, i'll leave it at that. Let me just add that i'm very happy on how it all went through the years. I never expected it to become what it is now in the first place. A big thanks from me must go to the visitors, who have kept this a friendly laid-back sort of site about the amiga demoscene.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey z5!
It would be really really sad if ada would die!
I know of many people using the demo archive as resource for finding good amiga demos with much screenshots and informations (that's THE difference to pouet!)
Also the forum is a great resource for demo coders and other amiga enthusiasts. I do read the forums regularly since some time now, even if i'm (due to lack of time) quite passive.
So there are still two options, but forget about the first one! This is NOT an option!
I can offer some help with moderation or quality assurance of new demos in the archive and maybe some support for the php/html/css team (this is my occupation), but i must repeat: i don't have much time, so i will only be a small help.

As we have written before in "Metropolice" ADA is the most important Amiga demoscene site at the moment. Thank you z5 for your great job - 'coz I know that it took a lot of your time.
Well, I don`t have enough time too (and even if I have some I will rather try to make another Amiga demo) but I hope that somebody will take care of this great site as soon as possible.
Maybe I can help a bit with the "logos" section.

I see we all have the same problem: time! (Let's face it: we are oooold!!! ;P)
On a serious note: option 1 is a "no way!" solution to me too. I could live with an option 2 (sad, but alive), but if we want to go on with option 3 a different approach must be taken really.
Considering the above-mentioned lack of time/motivation/whatever anybody has to deal with, I think the best solution could be a community effort. Not as in "open to everyone", but a bunch of selected people (before you ask: z5 does the selection! ;P) who can rely upon each other when it's needed. IMHO.
Let's be honest: the idea of running a site like this one, even if it's a hobby site, it's a huge and scary responsibility if you're left all alone on your own. It is to me at least! ;)

I second all, esp. skan: community support would be the best I think. I have two things in my mind: 1. n moderators have equal rights and everyone does administrative work as much time he has 2. using role system with the roles a) site admin, b) QA, c) content supporter where a) is allowed to do what he wants to, c) adds/administers content and b) verifies and puts online. if the trust is high enough b) & c) can be the same person.
If you want me - you got me. I'm old, too (= few time only), but letting ADA die? NO WAY! ;)

My php skills are very primitive (I haven't touched it much in 8 years) but I'm willing to help with some code for the admin part, I won't let ADA die. I think that creating some "upload new production" page, other for admins to be able to notice new uploads, edit and approve them and other to add new admins shouldn't be hard. We should take some care with security and perhaps an admin tool that allows performing backups or performs the backups automatically each week may be a good addition too.
If someone more php-capable plans to do the improvements I could help with moderation (mind you, I just love amiga demos&parties but I'm not a real scener)
You did a great job with ADA and I think it has helped to keep amiga scene alive, the forums are a valuable source of information too.

Just to be clear: the web development side of things (php and such) is in hands of todi so there is no need for that.
I'm trying to find a way to keep the content of the site more alive. Which is primarily adding new and old demos.
All feedback is valuable.
I'd just like to add that i'm not fishing for compliments with this thread. I'm just trying to get an idea on how other people feel about the site and if there is interest in continuing it one way or another. Some sort of outside point of view from visitors.

I'm willing to help (moderation wise) too! ADA is way too important to Amiga scene (read: I never finish my Amiga 500 demo without the forum :D ).

Sounds like the method that got applied for ze infamous Pouet :) When it works over there it definitely will work here.
Is there a backend (admin) section that allows such levels as Scicco described ?

ADA? Die?? No way! ADA is the most important web site related to Amiga Scene. I not an active Amiga scener but I constantly check ADA to see the old/new nice demos, and read the forum. It is not very active but you should definitely keep it up! with option 2 or 3.

I know I'm not hugely active on here, but that's largely because I am spreading myself too thinly (about a dozen projects on the go, plus work, sleep etc.). I would hate to see ADA die, for two reasons: 1) I am not a huge fan of the Pouet sites design; 2) I just finished a Danish ASM Course (to help me polish up my 68K ASM skills) and have started working on my own demo (literally just 3 days ago).
This site is great, and, whilst I don't have much time at present, I would certainly love to help out in any way I can.

Lonewolf10: I just finished a Danish ASM Course (to help me polish up my 68K ASM skills) and have started working on my own demo (literally just 3 days ago). Please use and abuse the forum for coding questions (many skilled people are willing to help out) and good luck with the demo :) Do you already have experience in assembler and or amiga coding?

z5_: Please use and abuse the forum for coding questions (many skilled people are willing to help out) and good luck with the demo :) Do you already have experience in assembler and or amiga coding? Yes, loads. I spent my early teens learning to code in BASIC on my Spectrum 128k. Around 2001 I started coding in AMOS Basic on the Amiga and have become quite knowledgeable on AMOS and the Amiga. I have been coding in ASM on and off for the past 2 years (mostly writing a few AMOS commands to test and improve my ASM coding skills). The Danish ASM Course mentioned in my previous post helped improve my ASM coding further, including clearing up a few things I was confused about. I am taking things slowly, and am fully aware that current and veteran demo coders lurk on this site (and other Amiga sites) :) I will certainly ask questions when I get stuck. Regards, Lonewolf10

Too bad if ADA should die, I still check it regularly myself. Even if the worst happens, I think option 2 is way better than option 1 - the content already in here will be relevant forever :)
