Hi! I am currently gathering example clips from various demos for my NVScene seminar. The plan is to have clips that illustrate how particular hardware features are used in demo effects. I have most of my wanted effects covered, but there is one I have trouble locating a suitable version of. I want an interference effect - you know, two bitplanes with circles in them, which are offset relative to each other to create an interference pattern. There is a very nice version in State of the Art, but there is this woman dancing in front of it. :) There is also one in Budbrain Megademo 2 (Africa part), but it has a wide border with graphics all around it. Finally, there is one in Overdose which is alone on the screen, but it has a copper gradient in the pattern. I would like to find one which is plain and simple. Any suggestions?

The interference in Mesmerized by PMC always looked best to me. I later tried to beat it visually by adding two light sources in Mnemonics, but my implementation ran in chunky-mode, while Mesmerized ran in hardware (with 4 bitplanes).

I made a plain one in Fruitcake by RNO. It does show credits on top of the interference circles after a while though.

There is a "textured" one in Lola.

Also try looking at the Ray of light demos from Majic 12.

Check paracetamol by mayhem in this compact disk, it's the very first interference and imho the best (you can remove the text and the logo by pressing the right mouse button). http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=14814

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!
I ended up using the one from Mesmerized, though I agree that the one in Paracetamol also looks great, and is the most basic.
I now have 25 demo effect clips from 10 different demos by 8 different groups, with a total playback length of about 10 minutes. It's a suitable combination of blockbusters and more obscure picks.
For the fun of it, see if you can guess the following about the collection:
1. Which demo contained most of the effects? 2. Which group made most of the demos? 3. Which year saw the release of most of the demos?
Winner gets a beer at some suitable party. :)

Glad that you liked it. I also once gave a similar lecture about the evolution of effects from C64 cracktro, over Amiga to modern PC which was a lot of fun to prepare and give. Will your talk be recorded and shared afterwards?
As for obscure picks, Total Triple Trouble has some great copper tricks. And for the quiz, my hinge is: WOC92, Sanity, 1992

As the only contestant, noname is the winner of the guessing competition, even though he only got one out of three right. :)
The correct answers are:
1. Desert Dream (6 effects)
2. Sanity (3 demos)
3. 1993 (4 demos)
Actual presentation coming up in just over three hours. Hang on for streaming information...

Thank you Blueberry I loved your seminar! Good to see you mentioned the 102 zoomer :0) I probably would have picked Jesterday for my example though.
I thought I knew how all the effects were done until you explained the zooming plasma from Arte. Probably my favorite Plasma.
How much of a gap is there between the 2 videos ? Did you mention Blitter line draw ?

Wow, I won a beer! ;)
Thanks for the nice talk, Aske. Amiga scene didn't have many of such presentations and I think they are important for archival purposes. The audio-stream is quite good and your explanations are excellent. Unfortunately the video quality could be better. Not only does it stutter sometimes, but for some slides it is actually impossible to read the text. That's why I would like to encourage you, or maybe someone else who is in charge of the recordings, to re-render the video in a dual-view layout with a large inset of the actual slides in high quality. That would be ace!

There is a fair bit missing from the recording, unfortunately. These are the things I talk about in the gap:
- Blitter cookie cut (the first recording stops just as I switch to the slide) - Effect: Bob-field from Seeing is Believing - Effect: Shade bobs from Hardwired - Effect: Chaos zoomer from Bananamen - Blitter filling - Effect: Filled balls from Interference - Blitter line drawing - Effect: Filled vector from Seeing is Believing - Effect: Glenz vector from Hardwired
I have just uploaded my slides (including demo clips with sound) to scene.org. I'll let you know when they are ready for download.

I really enjoyed the talk, Blueberry. Although the bad quality and missing part was a bit annoying.
Your talk reminded me of a magician revealing his secrets :P

Thanks for the slides!
May I propose that you give your talk again at a Revision seminar? Should get some interest there as well, as more sceners are attending. And it might result in a proper recording as a side effect.

It seems the address for the first part of the recording changed spontaneously. The correct links are: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/45355364http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/45356222
