Yes, it won and it deserved it. Kickass demo! Maybe not the best effects on the block but the design and composition really rocked. It was my favourite in the compo.
Now you just have to upload it to the ADA database. :)

Damn, i honestly can't believe we actually got 53 votes...

btw. Malmix, if you ever read this, can you change the groupname to Ada instead of Amiga Demoscene Archive in the results file. It's going to be easier that way and not directly linked to this website.

You can find the intro here (i hope it's ok to bypass the grep party organisers?).

As i said before, it is a very simple intro so don't expect great things.

I have added it to Pouet so it would be great to have some feedback (good or bad, as long as it's honest): Pouet link (for obvious reasons, i won't add it to the ada website)

Z5: That's really an enjoyable intro you made there. I enjoyed watching it, and look forward to seeing more from you. Yes, the effects are a little simple, but what the heck - they look great and that's what matters. Thanks for the greeting by the way :-)

yeah i liked it as well. it's not that important at all to have good effects (that have probably been done before anyway) when you just have some ideas and design. just do your own thing and it'll be enjoyable. keep it up! :)

@dodke: watching how fast you're progressing with coding and general hardware banging/knowledge is downright depressing though.

well i had a pretty good general idea of graphics programming already before i (finally!) started coding on amiga so I can only really say that i've mainly just learned 68k assembler and stuff about the amiga hardware and some optimising this year. also before multicolor I had never done any 3d stuff either. (although it only had some lame particles)
and i guess i had been thinking about coding on amiga since at least 2001 so it really wasn't all that fast for me ;)

pretty good general idea = i knew how to do a tunnel and how to interpolate :)

and vauxhall was just plain c and didn't really have almost anything in it that i didn't know how to do before. I wasn't even dealing with the hardware directly at all because i got the code for that from other people :)

I did code most of the effects in vauxhall in assembler later on (to learn 68k asm) and added palette fades and some other stuff but never released it because the new version had a stereo replayer and i never got a stereo version of the soundtrack :)

I really like the text effect in the first part. Reminds me of Mild fantasy violence a bit. I like the square idea to. I might do something similar with Direct X using cubes !

Impressed you did the graphics to!

Really pleased you've released something. You've made me feel bad for not doing anything! I hope you do something for Breakpoint now :0) You should put it on ADA to. The Amiga needs more releases.

I just want to add some thoughts on releasing something for Amiga these days (long post coming up). Sorry for being slightly off-topic.

For me, releasing something for the demoscene has been a dream ever since i saw my first cracktro's, Wild Copper, Rebels Megademo,... I never got around to it though but i felt uneasy about it, frustrated even. It was something i had to do once in a lifetime, no matter what.

When i started working on this prod, i kept giving up. Let's face it, it isn't easy entering the Amiga scene now. The ada website currently has about 1200 different persons who worked on stuff before me. Tons of talented coders, graphicians, musicians, designers have already done tons of excellent demos, with tons of ground breaking and good looking effects, music and graphics. The probablility of doing a new effect for somebody like me as therefor 0%. So is the probability on improving graphics, design... Fact is: i'll never reach the level that was already attained before me.

So i was thinking: wtf do i even bother? People are going to laugh at the stuff i finally come up with after a lot of trial and error. Or ppl will laugh about the production not running on this or that hardware. No, i always got cold sweat when thinking about these things and i just gave up.

Luckily, Bonkers made me realise that this is actually not the point behind doing demos. It's having fun and trying to do something creative (as dodke pointed out in this thread), regardless of the outcome and what people think. In fact, knowing that you'll never be as good as what has already been done, should take away the stress considerably :)

I may never do another production (haven't used my line drawing and circle routine yet though :)) but in the end, it was worth persevering and it was an amazing feeling when i actually assembled it one last time, see it shrink to just 25k thanks to the fab execruncher2 and to send it off to the compo organisers. Wow! After all those years of dreaming and sitting at the sideline: a executable file, with music and graphics.

One last thing: you'd be suprised at how supportive other sceners are when you are trying to do something. This was probably the most positive experience from it all.

Hopefully this will motivate some people to have a go at it (free time permitting ofcourse). Many people on here have tons more knowledge about coding but keep sitting at the sideline.

That's it. Way too much attention has been spent on the intro already :)

I just watched loag on my 1240/40 AGA OS3.1 32MB ScanMagic and really like it. Hope to see more from you in the future.

When MuForce is running:
At the greets part are some regular music/effect dropouts after or before each group name. Depending on MuForce settingns and CPU power the dropout time is different (about 0.2 sec or less).
At the end when I click LMB to quit I get more or less gfx glitches and endless MuForce hits (BYTE READ from 00000000). If interested I send you the hits.

Without MuForce all looks fine. :-)

holy smoke!, z5 this little intro of yours is actually pretty good :D I really like it. I really enjoyed the bouncing circle blocks (kefrens inspired ? ;)) and where the blinking blocks turns into the intro name that was cool !
I think u have some very nice ideas here and u get BIG thumbs up from me, I will be watching u on BP09 :D Sadly my a1200 just burned the sound channels so the sound is nothing but trash here :( sniff!
Maybe this can inspire more people to enter or even re-enter the amigascene, u are certainly doing a great lot of work for the amiga z5, many thx m8 and happy new years all amigasceners i wish u from denmark :D

Thanks for posting the demoquiz, great fun!

I scored 17 points, but as usual I got most of my points from the old OCS-stuff. I did gain some extra points by guessing the year correctly on some demos even though I had never seen the demo before, just looking at the style of effects etc. you can usually pinpoint within a couple of years when a demo is from. :)

Assuming it's one point for each good title, group and year, i scored 32 points. I wouldn't have guessed Superautodrome 2 but as i was writing down Zero Gravity 2, the title actually appeared on screen :)

That Scarab one was cunning. I was fooled :)

It was a lot easier than the previous one.

z5: I just saw Life on a Grid. Nice work! It has good flow. The visuals and audio match together well, and you're getting a lot of visual result out of the technology you have available. I hope you'll try making another demo in the future.

@kalms: thanks a lot! I'm happy that all the help i received on this forum finally had a result, now matter how simple (i was feeling quite bad about asking yet another question without ever coming up with something tangible :)).

The response has been a lot more positive than i could ever have imagined. It makes me feel slightly nervous about doing another one :) But yes, i am quite motivated to do another simple short intro, with slightly more code behind it.
