Hi,

I'm a new member and I wondered whether the demo's have been put on CD/DVD in the past? If not, would you (ADA admins/owners) consider doing it in the near future?

The reason I ask is that I discovered back in March that the official Spaceballs site was down and it still is - some of the demo's on here can't be downloaded as they were stored on their site :(
I'd hate to see all these great demo's lost in cyberspace.

I realise this is a mammoth task, but once done it would only need updating/re-releasing yearly. I'd happily pay £5-£10 for it - perhaps more if you included all the info and pics about each demo like you have on here
.

At one point, i thought about it but i don't see the point anymore since everything is available on the internet (yes, i think that 99 % of the releases are on scene.org if you know where to look).

well, maybe I could do it (with your permission and possible consent of demo creators) sometime in the summer??

I am currently archiving the AMOS-LIST at Yahoo! groups before that gets lost at the moment. I plan to upload all the messages to Aminet over the next few weeks. I'm a big fan of AMOS Basic on the Amiga and may learn C sometime in the future, but not right now.

Thanks for running/looking after this site.

Honestly, lonewolf10, in theory it's a very good idea. I mean, i consider 99,9% of the prods here on A.D.A to be really worth viewing at least once and i consider most of them good to super. So to have them on a cd would be nice (i hate to think what will happen if my old amiga hardrive will stop working one day).

However, i quoted one important thing from your text. To distribute them on cd without consent of the creators wouldn't feel right to me and asking each and every demo creator for permission is impossible. Yes, demos are supposed to be freely distributible and others have done the same thing (ie the scene archives, a splendid cd-collection that is now online at scene.org).

Another idea which i did consider even better: gather all the stuff from A.D.A. and put it online in one place, instead of linking to various other sites. This has advantages: the collection + all download links work whenever the site is online (which is 99% of the time thanks to fab untergrund hosting). It avoids broken download links which i have now when sites moves, dissapear, when files are renamed,... It would be one fine collection of good stuff, stored in one place.

One day i hope to do the second option or if anybody else wants to do it, great. There is webspace available to store the files.

Sounds similar to the DemoCD project I once started with Dr Dreyer in 1997. We had everything compiled and tested for 68030 with batches taking care of running the demos in a unified way.

One of the reasons we didn't release it was the lack of permissions from the authors if you want to sell a compilation CD - even if you do not plan to earn any money with it (e.g. like Meeting Pearls CD). Ten years later I don't think that distribution would be a problem and I must second z5 in saying that putting it online is the way to go for sure!

It seems that quite a few links are broken at the moment so i may start actually collecting stuff and put it on the A.D.A. server.

Does anyone know if it is permitted to put for example aminet files or scene.org files on non aminet, scene.org servers? I think i once read that it was allowed to distribute aminet files but i'm not sure anymore.

Seems rather daft to download and extract aminet files, lha them again and put them online...

I don't see why it would be a problem, as long as you called it a "mirror" :)

CD's with amiga demos:

The scene archives:

Scene Storm was pretty cool "I think it came with an issue of Amiga Format".
(Someone please post a link if one exists:)

Now I have a question:
Are there any CDTV/CD32 demos?
