While i always remain very cautious about such topics, i can't help but notice (or at least i feel it that way) a slight increase in interest for the amiga demoscene again.

I see 3 things which give me that impression:

First, Breakpoint had more releases again. Agreed, the quality of the productions was lower than previous years, mainly due to some top amiga groups not releasing this year (groups like IRIS, Ephidrena and TBL). In the case of IRIS, apparently Doom has stuff in preparation but didn't manage to finish it on time. For TBL, they went for a console demo this year but i have a feeling that Starstruck will not be the last demo from Kalms en co. In the case of Ephidrena, i actually shit in my pants because i'm afraid we're actually loosing Loaderror and co but i hope to be proven wrong.

Second, there was a surprising comeback from Madwizards, since they released their last 68k demo back in 2001, and Kiero showed interest for more 68k demos in the future. Same goes for Corial and Optima, releasing again after a long time of silence. Then there are the ones who are at least interested or trying to comeback: Jamie, Sp and hopefully Winden one day. All experienced and excellent coders showing an interest again. Maybe some others will join.

Third, i'm amazed at the amount of interest there still is for Amiga coding. People are actually still starting to learn assembler. Granted, it remains to be seen how many actually release something but i think it's great. If two people could actually get as far as releasing prods, that would be wonderful.

As i said, i'm cautious about such things so we will see what the future brings :)

To end this long post (sorry), i wonder if others have the same or just the opposite impression? And if there is anything we can do to help starting coders in their first steps.

There are two things which I think have helped the Amiga demo scene recentley.

The first is websites like this where you meet people who also have a similar interest. They help inspire and create enthusiam for people to create demos again and even learn assembler ! The more and more I look the more great Amiga sites and people I find.

The other is I think TBLs Assembly winning demo Starstruck also showed you can still make cool demos on Amiga and get plaudits from people all over the scene and not just Amiga die hards who appreciate how much you've pushed the machine.

I for one don't feel and never will feel that ADA has any meaning or importance in the amiga demoscene nor will i take any credit for anything. ADA is here because i love demos. That's all :)

Heh. I do believe ADA deserves some credit. It's a really nice site, and it's nice that there are some bullshit-free forums to complement the Pouet BBS. And of course Starstruck is a nice demo. But there's a lot more going on than ADA and TBL.

Hey,

i'm currently learning m68k assembler for some amiga democoding and when i searched for tutorials 'n stuff i recognized that there are really some more people out there who are currently doing the same \o/ I heard from ppl that a Breakpoint-visit and the demo "starstruck" brought them back or to amiga. Let's hope that there will be some more miggy coders in the future!

And for me the miggy is _tEH_ demo-machine for doing stuff which would be impossible on the C64 =)

Cool :o) How are you progressing? Do you have prior programming experience? Anyway, if you've got questions, fire away in the forum here.

Well i started learning assembler with about 14 years in 2000 on the C64 atm i'm working on some big demo for it. I already tried some m68k assembler coding in 2001/2002 but i got stuck with the c64 stuff, so the main part will be to refresh the knowledge =)
But anyway stingray send me some nice tutorials ... we will see how fast i will progress ;)

If there's anything else, some friendly people on #amigascne (or some less friendly but more experienced people on #amycoders) will no doubt help you out.
