A bit "off-topic" :), but i recently acquired a new pc so i have a lot of catching up to do on pc demos.
Anyone who can recommend some pc demos from the last years? I have checked out a couple already and i must say that Arise from Stravaganza is absolutely great.
btw. still haven't found any as enjoyable as amiga demos but that's just me i guess :)

StingRay^Scoopex recommended me some old Doomsday prods and a couple of demos named "Just a touch of funk" and "Jumpy" by a group I cannot remember the name now... but you can find'em on Pouet! :D

There is a thing called demo on PC...
For an easy start I recommend checking the contents of the Mind Candy DVD. Maybe you should even buy one, it's really good.
Then, depending on your interest you are of course welcome to download Farbrausch, Haujobb and Kewlers productions between 2000 and 2005 and check the Pouet webpage. Bear in mind that Mindcandy did not contain any intros. So if you like intros, search on Pouet.
Just some quick recommendations of the head:
Heaven 7, The Product, Poem to a horse, Candytron, Fukwit Daddy (all intros)
Intros by Conspiracy, AND.
The Popular Demo, Variform, We Cell (all demos)
Ah well, probably just put your nose into
the scene org awards.

I might have given the wrong impression here :) Actually, i've been following the pc demoscene quite closely until my pc wasn't powerful enough anymore a couple of years ago, so i was looking for good demos released in the last couple of years
I also bought the mindcandy dvd.
In the meantime, i have downloaded a lot from monostep :)

ah, well. thought it sounded strage that people had no clue about pc demos :0
have you checked the two headed squirrel then? it's really nice page. almost too much info. but maybe you like it. make sure to check the archive as not everything is on the front page.

If u wanna watch demos from a different platform than Amiga..go for C64 demos..not PC :P
hehe..only joking..ive downloaded a good portion of the Mindcandy demos..and quite a few nice ones there..
The big sellingpoint for me with PC demos is the music.
The TBL/Spaceballs music pieces from the amiga is just great...but the music on the amiga will fall short just due to the quality of sound...

Demoo is also a good place to search for good demos - Demoo - http://demoo.calodox.org/]
I like Iconoclast from ASD. Extremly good music, many great effects and it does run on my "lame" gfx card. Lame is not true. It's almost two years old but it has been quite expensive. But that's how it is in the pc demoscene. You must buy a new graphics card once a year if you want to watch the demos on your machine instead of leeching 400megs big video files! ;-)

watch all Portal Process demos! :) If you like our style, you'll love theirs.
Also for pure technological and artistic pleasure watch Plastic demos which use top notch 3d hardware and do new effects like depth of field (camera focus), high dynamic range rendering, projected textures (not that new:)), smooth shadows(biggest technological challenge in 3d today)
Kewlers + Mfx stuff like aether, mojito 1 and 2, we cell
Aeon flux by Synesthetics.
and the list goes on! Pc demos rule too you know and believing that there are no limits on pc is bullshit. There'll be a limit in the knowledge of the coders too so you'll be able to judge platform independant coding/math skills.. hurray!

Depth of field can be seen at sumea by virtual dreams of fairlight, and also most probably some msdos demo also did depth of field around that date...

In the meantime, i have watched al lot of pc demos.
Sadly, Portal Process demos don't like my setup. In fact, these are the only demos that don't run nicely on my setup. They slow down to unacceptable speeds in a lot of scenes. I have a fairly powerful gfx card (ATI X800 Pro 256 Mb). I read somewhere that portal process demos don't like ATI. Oh well, i'll try the latest to see if it's any better.
Plastic does nice "showcases of technology, craftmenship, talent" but they are quite boring to watch (as most 3D scene based demos). Nice for once though and spectacular.
The groups that made the best demos, imo, are (out of my head): Kewlers, Outracks, Wipe, some stuff from Ukonx, Bauknecht, Stravaganza, MFX. Liked the first one from Synesthetics aswell. And definately Moppi. And i definately forgot some.
Still, i must say that the replay value isn't as high as amiga demos like J', Concrete, Finnmark, Fake electronic lightshow,... I really would like to adore pc demos more. For every amiga release nowadays, 10 or more pc productions are released. But somehow, i don't...
sniff...

z5, you didn't like RGBA's paradise from euskal 12?

I put them on the same category as most of the Conspiracy releases: wonderful, really well made, impressive,... but not something i rewatch often. I'm more "into" demos with effects instead of more "story driven 3D demos".

In the case of paradise, they should have made hell instead :) With volcanoes and rhinos with three horseheads or something sick...
@z5 the 4k from KG must wait a bit. When I came home, I didn't get any picture on my monitor anymore. I hope it is the monitor that is broken and not the last working screen output from my amiga that has gone.
Sam of Portal Project got himself an x800 too, so I expect future demos to be ok on that one atleast. The new one was coded on one I think.

Seems i shall be checking out the new Portal Process demo asap then :o)
Pity about the broken Amiga :( I was sooo looking forward to it. Any chance of releasing a party-version? :) I've still got a new A1200 here so if yours is broken, i can lend it to you (though amigas don't cost a lot anymore... the 68060 cards on the contrary...)

@z5 have to find out if it is the monitor or the amiga first. I've got a spare amiga at home myself so no problem as long as the 060 works. Dozer of Norwegian amiga fame gave me a new 64meg chip this party too, so now I can watch tbl stuff and waste some memory on the next demo.
my machine was the compo machine so the intro isn't anywhere else :(

That is good news :)
And while we are off-topic... StingRay, what happened to the final version of your Breakpoint intro? :)

Have been watching more pc demos lately and i'm starting to like them :) I was seriously impressed by the Outracks demos (good stuff comes from Norway :)). Especially our demo, synthematik and especially Blockbuster, which has so much energy in it. Great stuff. The two Bauknecht demos are quite fantastic aswell.

Word has it that the PR-department of Ephidrena decided to release it at TUM, out of competition. So still a bit of waiting...

Going on with a list of demos i enjoyed, from Mindcandy: Experimental by Wipe en Enlight the surreal by Noice (which sadly doesn't seem to work on my xp pc). Two fantastic, more oldskool style demos, and my favourite pc demos. Great is also Further and especially Gerbera by Moppi.

Good question indeed. :) Well, I started to work on the final shortly after breakpoint but due to lack of time I never really finished it. One day I might finish it even though I still think it's just a large piece of crap.
