If anything ever made your jaw drop, this is it. Amazing stuff.

comment by strayel on 18 August 2002

First time I saw this was '92 on an A500 hooked up to a thumpin' stereo, more impact than 3DMark2001 ever had!

comment by sylicon^intense on 09 October 2002

Every Amiga scener should feel it ... no comment, just pure pleasure.Never forget these days ;-)

comment by mahen on 21 November 2002

EXCELLENT. Timeless classic.

comment by VindicatioN on 30 July 2003

This was the first demo I ever saw on Amiga. It was my first year of college, and I saw this running on my friend's A500... I wasn't sure what to expect. I only had a 386/33 PC, and he told me this was an amazing demo. He popped in the floppy disk, and I thought, "What could be so great just on one disk?" After the demo ended, I was stunned. We watched it many times that day... I remember him inviting friends over all day long to play it for them. Everyone was amazed. Truly redefined demos, allowing them to touch non-sceners as well. I still watch it often in WinUAE/Fellow, and show friends who haven't heard of it. It has held up well over the years. Haven't seen anything make such a huge impact since then. Maybe Farbrausch's fr025, but I think it owes a lot to SOTA. 5/5

the first demo i saw and it got me crazy...and it still does...i always enjoy rewatching it!

One of the first Amiga demos I saw, and which really got me interested in this demoscene. Also something you could easily blow your non-computer freak buddies (did you have any? :)) away with, as most VJs found out - many fragments of SOTA played at rave parties around that time.

Best of it all was that it was something completely different and original from the other demos at that time. Perhaps not the most technically advanced demo in the world, but a these few minutes of 50 fps hardcore 'in your face' Amiga (500!) power on one disk makes this nothing else than a hands down classic.

The demo that made history, and allowed precalculations :) Great all the way!

comment by calen on 19 October 2003

This is one of these demos you would stick in you A500 and let your friends see what could be done on the Amiga and all one floppy. Super smooth fluid animation mixed with great visual effects and great fitting music, very much a head turner classic!

What was added amazement to an already classic demo was how fast the James Bond style intro loaded with music in 2 seconds or so, excellent.

comment by Vanquish on 20 October 2003

This demo is, and forever will be a timeless classic. The visual style was (ans still is!) so original, it will never age, it will never go out of fashion, it will never perceived as oldskool and will ALWAYS be regarded as cool. Why? Because it is so beautifully simple! It is everything it can be and everything it needs to be.

There are no corners cut and no compromises made. What I mean is that you could not really make a sequel to it. There would be no point as there is no way you could improve upon it (look at 9fingers for proof if this fact!). Not even with better hardware could you better this concept, which is probably another reason why this demo is so cool - it's almost as if the Amiga hardware was designed with this demo in mind! It's a perfect example of utilising the hardware (in this case, the bitplane effects) to perfection.

Sadly, I think the only thing that will age is the music, as styles come in and out of public taste. But to me, and I'm sure you've pretty much guessed by now, I LOVE IT!

Ps, If anyone hasn't heard it yet, go dig out the extended version of the music - well worth a listen!

I downloaded this at 3.00am, after a night out, from a local bulletin
board with a 2400baud modem. It took ages, and I was fairly knackered.
I had no idea what to expect. I unpacked it to a floppy with DMS, and
off it went. It was dark, and I was completely blown away - it was
like watching a music video rather than a demo. This is easily the
best demo of all time, just for its impact that first time.
Fantastic!
