I've been more concerned about the decline of AGA releases over the past few years, and judging by the statistics I'd say you have no reason to worry. Revision having a unified amiga compo will certainly not kill the OCS scene, and who knows, extrapolate the growth curve of OCS releases and there might even be dedicated compos in the future :)

Personally I like it a lot better to have all amiga demos in one compo. A kickass A500 demo like Rink-a-dux would probably beat the majority of AGA demos ever at Revision (and Ghosttown won last year). Also it's nice to have a good 6 beer long compo of amiga goodness rather than a couple of small ones :) Technical specs aside I think it's a lot easier to judge an A500+A1200 compo than an oldskool compo with 12 different platforms.

That being said, having all the OCS/ECS productions go in the oldskool compo instead would be FAR better than the clusterfuck that was last year with seemingly random distribution of amiga demos.

Well, what Esau wrote was more or less the logic behind it - Amiga demos -> Amiga compo, to avoid the random distribution of Amiga entries. And as last year has also shown, you can win in the "AGA compo" with an OCS entry, so comparing how much faster an AGA machine is, means nothing. Last year the Oldschool was won by a PC entry, a bit slower and weaker than an A500...

We can also push all Amiga OCS entries to the Oldschool, that was another option. But then last year was already an entry, which ran on OCS, but required an '020+ and Fast RAM. Then what. OK, it was a silly entry, but still, it was entered first in the Oldschool even, we had to move it to the demo compo... Also, there was a lot of misunderstanding the previous rule caused.

Also, on the long run the AGA entries are declining, which means with more entries in the Oldschool, and less in the dedicated Amiga compos, which means no dedicated Amiga compos at Revision in a few years. I'm fine with that, if the scene is. But the more vocal people were really disappointed with that possibility.

And yes, intros is a different business than demos. I also had the idea for "Amiga 64k Intro" instead of "Amiga Intro" so would be easier to make the split for OCS 4Ks...

... but sometimes it's really hard to push concepts through all the related organizing-politics, where Amiga is just a bullet point in a long list of "problems". Long story.

Last year the distribution wasn't actually that random. As far as I know the compo versions of both Ghostown's and Moods Plateau's demos did NOT work on a 1 megabyte A500 due to troubles optimising memory usage. Also they got more time because the deadline was a day later.
I ended up using my extra day to fix the demo for AGA. :)

Perhaps there could be a rule of how many entries are needed for AGA and OCS entries to be judged separately? They could still be shown at the same time, one category after the other.

This sounds like an invitation for a lot of shitty filler prods just to split the compos, making the total compowatching experience more tedious. "Yes, there were a lot of amiga prods, but man were they painful to watch"

I never tried Moods Plateau's demo on the A500, but Sushi Boys *was* recorded from the 1MB A500 (512K chip + 512K fast) "oldschool" compo machine, because it didn't run on anything else... They tried to get it running on AGA, but without success.

That's a valid point, actually. :)

OHAI,

registred a while ago, sleeping on the floor since 2001 ... not gonna change :)
Productionwise we are currently on hiatus, meaning we will (hopefully) arrive with an inflatable tropic island, a box of sand and wearing Hawaii shirts ... and Magnum style moustaches, just enjoying the party, only bringing the bear minimum like a tiny onescreener.
Since 2015 really took a toll on the partying issue especially for me bursting 2 or 3 times through the already dancing crowd on Sunday evening just to get the thing recorded for the show ( Charlie is THE MAN ).
This year I'd like to use the party visits to sit down with Doc.K to work on some major overhauls of the framework and plan the next production w/o a deadline breathing down my neck.

Sounds like a good idea, Michael. You've taken your share of partycoding (with a deadline) the past years, so a welldeserved break / partycoding for fun while drinking sounds like an excellent idea! Then we can actually talk without stress :-)

I really hope someone works on something. :) As always, I started something, but then a billion other things happened, and my engine also puked when we tried to feed real 3D objects to it instead of my test data, so yeah... :)

BTW, we fixed the OCS config on the webpage, and also clarified on some OCS rules. And BTW, if you still want to enter an OCS Amiga 4K, we will allow you in the Oldschool 4K, if you ask.

We gave up on our aga demo about 3 weeks ago, so that one is going to be released at some other party. Both Optic and I lost our inspiration, so nothing from FD this year either.

I haven't got ANY final content done yet but trying my best to release an AGA demo in the compo anyway. I really hope I won't be the only one!

For every single prod YOU make, I will do three compo fillers ;) And no, "organizing & support" doesn't count

And there i was thinking there were no progress reports this year because everyone had already finished their demo... not really though ;)

That's a shame, Corial. Your last demo with Esau en Optic was great stuff indeed. Hopefully, inspiration returns sometime in the future :)

Fingers crossed that you manage to finish your demo, Dodke. Really looking forward to a new AGA demo from you. Should be awesome!

@Britelite: organizing and support doesnt quite cover all i do but it doesnt have to.. I am used to remarks like the one you just placed over the years.. i enjoy this nah-kolor role the last 20 years and the satifaction when the release is out there in the open. Deal with it that other groups have other methods :)

I'm not questioning your role in your group. Just saying that it's easy to ask others to do productions while not actually creating anything yourself.

Being overly enthusiastic and begging people to "do something" might actually have the opposite effect than what you're hoping for. At least for me it might actually kill the little motivation I have as I wouldn't want to give you the satisfaction of thinking that you motivated me to do something.

We're getting older and have less time on our hands. So when people complain about the lack of time or motivation, they don't really need someone shouting "DO SOMETHING!!" at them, especially someone who doesn't produce anything themself.

End of rant

@Slummy: that's noted! I have never competed at Norwegian parties, so after 25 years in the scene, one could rightfully argue that it's about time.

Should we figure something out in terms of an Amiga dudes table? Anyone up for looking into that option?

Sounds great! Our shuttle takes us there by 8PM so I guess we need to rely on some earlier dudes.

okay, some of us will TRY to arrive early and reserve a row like last year.
no promises, just a best effort.

there is already a 10+ of amiga sceners interested to sit together.

who is also interest to grab the space/table in the "amiga corner"?

I'm asking because i'll try to print out the A4 labels with your name, so that others are aware that space is "reserved", but orgas also doesn't support reserving, so basically, it's just a good will is someone will respect that.

Every year Thursday evening we have a Test Compo, to test the entire compo recording chain. Which means, we will watch at least two Amiga demos (one AGA, one ECS) on the huge screen, before the party even starts. :) The audience is of course mostly orgas only around at this time, but some visitors usually arrive already.

Tonight we will watch "Last train to Danzig" by Ghostown and Haujobb on AGA/060 and "Interparallactic" by Unique on OCS/ECS.

8 intros in the amiga compo. The CNCD intro (from 1992) seemed exactly the same as released by Axis so it will be interesting to see how that got through.
