Now that we need a kids room for real, i am running out of space to keep my beloved Amiga 500 on the desk. I would like to get small and affordable laptop (or subnotebook) for Amiga coding (nothing else done on that machine).

Is Asus eee pc juicy enough for this task? Also for best option i would like it to boot to emulated Amiga directly. Any suggestions what to look for?

Hey Rebb :-)

According to a few of the guys over on EAB (http://eab.abime.net) who've tried it WinUAE runs fine on an ASUS eee pc.

Getting the PC setup so that it boots straight into an emulated Amiga is a bit more tricky I think...

Photon, also over at EAB, has been messing around with getting his laptop configured so that it boots straight into WinUAE without showing anything of Windows, apparently successfully - might be worth dropping him an email - maybe he can give you some details.

Hope this helps :-)

I am using an EEE 900 and it works fine with WinUAE emulating 060/AGA. Don't do much hardware related stuff myself and I guess thats the most expensive part of the emulation so not sure how that stuff runs.

On a similar not, have anyone tried using WinUAE under Wine? (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass= application&iId=5686) Would be great to be able to emulate an Amiga on a descent OS.

I'm using Asus Eee pc 1000h and winuae runs well on it.
euae is a little bit more stable if you are using linux.
I prepared a hdd disk (a folder), it loads an empty workbench and asmpro nothing else such as toolbars, docks and any other tools at startup. so it is useful for coding.

cloanto's amiga forever cd is bootable, so you can boot your pc as an amiga. it runs very nice.
