Tons of potential but not fully realised (i assume due to time constraints).

Positive: superb presentation, visuals and design. Great use of video. Nice effects and color use. I love the look of this demo. It's super sexy, slick and fresh. The textured look for the effect in screen 6 is great. The tune is a killer.

Negavite: a bit thin on content (as i said, probably due to time). The video credits are great but tend to be a bit long, especially when rewatching. Also, i would have expected a bit more punch in the demo, especially since the tune was begging for it. The drawback of using video is that there can't be much synchro/dynamic stuff in relation to the tune in those video parts. Overall, this demo tends to look a bit too static.

On another note, thank you so much for the 15 years. Ephidrena has made the past 15 years incredibly interesting scene-wise. I hope we'll see more demo related stuff in the years to come.

Great to see Ephidrena back, Lux had "this is the last demo we will ever do" written all over it so I was very pleasantly surprised seeing this.

Smashing demo. Good choice of colours and a fresh attitude. Love the (free) outline on the polar-buffer object. Did I remember correctly when Loaderror told me that the buffer was 64x64 at Solskogen, looks very smooth for being such low res could there be some interpolation in there, if so I am mightily impressed. The video stuff looks great, the blurry parts works great to create contrast to the effects.

At first I didn't like the use of the "Concrete" sample in the tune but after reading on pouet that it was to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the group I can accept it ;-).

Before Solskogen, i sort of made a deal with myself that if there was something released demowise from Ephidrena, i would keep updating the ada site for like another year or something. I'm doomed :)

About the demo: I made quite a harsh comment before, but now I can see why at least: after rewatching the thing on my Miggy, I can say that the loooong and boring credits ruin it. Fix!!! ;)

Hi all. There are things to improve in this demo as has been commented on by many people at the party and afterwards. The credits sequence is a bit on the long side is a common comment. I have a few things I'd like to add myself, but I'd rather move on to the next prod to be honest. Lux Aeterna taught me to not put effort into finals. It is too boring to patch up something and not be able to show it to some live audience. There will be an Atari version and we might do a similar show incorporating more of the elements which we wanted in this demo. Antialiasing, cartoonish storytelling elements, alternate soundtrack (this will be in the final) and some objects we never got around to use are in the top list of things to improve. We'll see. I'd rather leave it and get on to new things.

Sounds like a good plan to move on to a new project. As somebody who has bitched for final versions far too often, i've come to realise that there is little point in doing them, unless they fix major bugs or are released within a short time after the party version. Otherwise, the final version is mostly overlooked and rarely delivers a much improved or more enjoyable release than the party version.

Lot's of great ideas in this demo. Superb to see you're doing demos again, loaderror (is Cheetah still around?) and can't wait until the next demo.

Still not entirely sure what the "low apostrophe" means though :) But i'll change to title on my next update.

\o/ 15 years ephidrena. I like the style and the music, though it gets a bit repetitively after lets say 1.55 minutes. I expected some kind of hard core showdown with fireworks :D etc after the break. Thank you, top guys, for 15 years demosceneing.

I was playing with an iPad in a shop a couple of days ago and i checked out this demo and the screenshots looked fantastic. Colors and design from the demo really came alive on the rather gorgeous screen.

@bonkers : yes the heightmap is just 64x64, but there are some things which cover up the blockiness. The effect itself is 256 colours, but is dithered down to 16 in the 'polar map' part of the effect so that hides some blockiness. In addition there is a rice paper layer to add some variation too.

@z5 : Cheetah is still around, but he has mostly been making music lately. Also he is busy with his job I guess. He has some ideas for a prod, but it demands some support code first before we can make anything of it. The high apostrophe can hide only a few characters, but the low apostrophe is way more powerful and can be used to hide large texts with government secrets and expensive equipment at cheap prices and everything.

Could you also add How/ephidrena to the additional code credits? We forgot to credit him in the nfo because we were drunk and busy writing the ultimate greetings list.
