@kalms:

Is the final version going to have changes "content-wise" (things you weren't happy with or that you didn't have time for) or will it be exactly the same demo but optimized for real miggy?

On a sidenote, this demo pushed Planet Potion from the top spot in the A.D.A charts, which is quite remarkable since Planet Potion has been there for as long as i can remember :o)

So Mavey, where are you? Time to come back, i think :o)

Id love to see this production but will need a avi/stream to watch it.

Any links to a videorecording of this demo?

Ideally we'd like to work on content, performance, and memory & diskspace consumption (roughly in that order). What will actually get done depends on our inspiration during September.

I haven't tried any classic ADPCM codecs; we're using a similar, but less documented, algorithm. I don't have any good advice off the top of my head.

I'll be back in Lkpg for real in about 2 weeks time (currently travelling like a yo-yo between Sthlm and other ends of the country), and I'll get in touch then!

The ADPCM compression used is VAG, same as the one used for the Sony Playstation.

Amazing demo, by the way. I haven't figured out how to use WinUAE to get it working, nor do I have a method to get it working on my real one...

Ok, sadness' gone now.
But the anger remains.

Not only "the others" have the final, but it runs even smoother!

I demand an "Only Amiga makes it possible" (read: "CAN'T be ported to any other shitty platform") demo by TBL as soon as possible!!!

The improved frame rate really improves it. Is this just the difference of not having todo chunky to planar? Thanks a bunch Commodore !!!

I think that 100mhz 68060 and PC133 SDRAM do the job! ;)

That said, according to Evil's comment on the Silkcut video:

"For effects updating the entire screen 8bit is faster, and this demo uses bitplanes with c2p. The same c2p routine from Kalms (a bit adapted to the Falcon interleaved bitplanes)."
I think they used the very same routines?

I'd seen this demo in WinUAE a number of times a while back but I recently managed to get a Blizzard 1260 / 128Mb RAM installed in my A1200 and watched on the real thing.

Let me just say that this demo R U L E S!

While I really like this one, as a relatively novice coder these are the type of prods I watch and think "there is no way on the face of this earth that I will ever be able to code something like that ever!"

Therefore an astounding *and* depressing (:-P) demo all at the same time!

@skan: They ;) use exactly the same routines, only noticeable difference is sound processing -- full-blown mp2 in stereo instead of mono ADPCM. DSP has made this possible. Rest is just system init / deinit stuff.

Oh, btw: I know I may have sounded like a moronic zealot with those comments, but I sometimes forget not everybody knows me well and that I'm not much serious usually...

Bonkers was mentioning on the new Ephidrena demo that Lux had "this is the last demo we will ever do" written all over it. In retrospect, wasn't Starstruck the same for TBL amiga division? I mean, it won the biggest (high end) pc demo compo and places in the all time top 10 pouet charts. What can you still achieve after that?

It's a pity that tbl amiga never did more 64k intros or smaller demo projects in between the blockbusters. An intro like Imitation None would still kick ass in any 64k compo in 2010 and that intro was released 12 years ago. Same goes for smaller demoprojects like Mokkademo 2001 which was a great demo.

With TBL, the only way was up, bigger, better, more epic. After Starstruck, there probably wasn't much more to achieve. I hope i'm wrong and i hope to see another tbl amiga demo. But the 4 years of silence since Starstruck isn't giving me much hope.

I assume a smaller project in a different style would probably be the only way to recover from making such demos?

I'm agree with z5, it would be interested to see what wellknown/famous programmers who have released big demos in the past can do in 64K/4K : where are you Exploder, Scout, Dr.Jekyll, Sonik clique, Industry, Nature Artwork, Haujobb, Sanity and many others.

oh and i forget, Essence and Embassy we're waiting for your new demos !

In any case, i was not trying to speak in tbl's name ofcourse. Just trying to imagine that it must be hard to come up with / find motivation after such a long row of blockbuster demos. And to state that the "smaller" tbl projects were great too.

Also, all sceners have full time jobs/family to take care of now. So each new demo still being released is something i see as a gift.

On top of that, most are probably doing computer related jobs. Sitting in front of a computer at work the whole day and then coming home to sit in front of a computer again is really hard to maintain.
