Anyway, like I've said before, it's shit like this that really makes me feel like NOT doing ANYTHING for the party.

magicnah:

We know they are welcomed, but who the hell are you to ask us to do anything, it's not your party and you're sure as hell not coding anything yourself. We owe YOU nothing. Drop this kind of shit, or at least figure out how to word things better, now you're just coming off as entitled.

I'm struggling with inspiration as it is, and if this was any other party I might actually drop all my projects and make sure everyone know it's you who killed the last bit of motivation I had.

Long story short: this is NOT the way to motivate people!

End of grumpy rant

I don't often make 100% serious posts but I just wanted to say I'm completely aligned with Britelite here. The sense of entitlement and "look, I'm helping" that comes off of some posts and community members is a major turn-off from doing new releases overall.

Luckily I have a massive ego which drives me on, but on a bad day stuff like this makes it all feel pretty meaningless.

Well, I am going to attend and look very much forward to it. A release...that I would very much doubt, as I retired myself from the Revision compos some years ago as real-life work is always pretty intense in the beginning of the year. Yes, I do realize that Easter is fairly late this year, but I think that my biggest contribution will be drinking fine German beer and feed myself with currywurst :-)

We've got a project in the pipeline. A rudimentary storyboard exists. About 2/3 of the FX are prototyped and run as single "alpha" screens. No tune yet, although Novel has received his "instructions" almost a year ago. But he recently moved to Berlin; new assignment at the consulate of the "Incompetent Danish Fucktards" :D
ATM working on the main effect, but in the end it'll all stand or fall with Novel delivering a fitting tune in time.

Uhh yes, I totally second the rant by the large Finnish dude ;)

@dodge:
Novel is in Berlin now? How come he didn't visit the Amiga Club meeting (see A1k.org) we had twice in January? :) (I moved to Berlin earlier last year.) We watched a lot of demos on a bigscreen. Including some Moods Plateau stuff!

BTW, about Revision I'm going to have a release this year. Not partycoded. Mark these words.

Oh maybe Novel didn't scan the local scene yet and was generally busy arranging the new flat and dealing with the crazy Danes in the consulate :D

Ooff, demo process is looking rather bleek. No graphics yet and Xen is ill and has university stress. No soundtrack but all intended effects are basically done and are even linked. So no slacking on the coding department.

Yeah, some stuff, in case anyone looks here during the party (also, they are a FAQ it seems):

- Contrary to the gossip spreading before the party, I ended up doing this shit once again, even if I didn't plan to, because of reasons. Oh well...
- We have no 66Mhz 68060 this year. However, we have a 70Mhz or an 50Mhz one. Pick your poison. Or pick an Amiga 500.
- There are entries. There will be compos. :P
- I didn't finish my demo. I can give the mail address of my boss if anyone feels like complaining. I still feel like shit about it tho'. :(
- We have 16:9 recording in place, as I promised to several people before the party. So if your entry runs in a 320x180 letterbox on the middle of the PAL screen, we can extend it to full screen on the bigscreen. The drawback is of course even bigger pixels... This is of course entirely optional and on request.

Questions? Write here, catch me on the place, or send a message via Partymeister.

So full transparency on this years' organizer fuckups (Amiga wise), here we go:

Moods Plateau: Their demo should have run on an AGA machine, because the fractal zoomer thingy is much faster there. However, I tried their intro on the 500, and it worked, so I assumed it was for the 500. They did not specify hardware in the organizer info (or I have missed it). I'm sorry about this. It wasn't *that* slow IMO, but it could have been faster.

So anyone, next year, please *always* specify which hardware your entry is for, otherwise it might end up running on a 500, if it can. :) Remember, half the compo was for 500, so I was on a roll...

Skarla: it turned out, there were a few trashed pixels of the recording of the background of the blob part. It was hard to notice, because of the dim colors of the part, but it was there. I'm really sorry about it. I *assume* (no proof) this was a problem of the heavily overclocked B1260 (70Mhz), which was very stable otherwise the whole weekend (not a single crash), but I got a trashed pointer once in IBrowse (later on Sunday, Skarla's demo was already recorded at this point), which was weird. This could even suggest a Chip RAM issue, but I don't believe that's the case, as the motherboard is in almost-daily use, with the same PSU, and it was recapped 3 years ago.

The story of that B1260 is very... colorful, but it has been the card which we used for *ALL* the Revision parties so far. However, for this year, the owner has overclocked it even further from 66Mhz to 70Mhz. For next year, we should have our own 66Mhz B1260, with a Rev.6 CPU, so we shouldn't borrow this card any more...

These are the two "user visible" fuckups I know. If you have more, please complain below, so for next year, we can improve.

Hope you enjoyed Revision 2017. Thanks for all the entries. You are awesome. Stealth Ranger, over and out.

Charlie, my dude, never apologise ;)
It is I who should because I didn't go the extra mile to sort out the timing/speed issues on the 500 and relied on the convenience of "runs smooth on the big one, good enough."
I was -- quite inebriated -- challenged by all the possible text inputs. Didn't there used to be a selectbox where you could select the chipset 'n sheeit?

Anyway, getting steamrolled by that level of quality and returning old warhorses is not a shame.

Yes, there were compo options a while back, but they got removed, because people used it all wrong, and just caused confusion. :) There's now a textfield for that, IIRC, but not everyone uses it...

I didn't notice this anywhere. Didn't anyone use this?
And doesn't this work for 320x200, too? (16:9 in full pal width is 720x405)

chainq:

This information was also missing on the big screen. Sometimes it was hard to tell if something is a very good A500- or a bland AGA demo.

@hellfire:
We had 16:9 recording working, but due to the lack of suitable entries, and because it wasn't properly communicated/defined before the party (among the rules), we decided to not to go ahead with it for the 1 demo, which indeed fit into 16:9 (the Unique one). I asked Unique about this, IIRC, and they were fine with it. The Skarla demo was just a tiny bit too tall for 16:9...

What happens next year - I think we really should have this, but I'm not sure I will be involved, and the rest of the orga team was kinda pushing back on this idea... So yeah.
