Hi there, is there anyone who owns a 68060 @ 60 Mhz or more with 64 MB fast and who is willing to testrun the final version of Prototype 1? I am asking because my Amiga can no longer serve as a reference for our demo (FPU is broken, slow memory, only 50 Mhz) and I would like to confirm that it works nicely on real hardware.

I hope not all of you are on holiday :)

I've got an A1200 with 68060@66MHz and 64MB Fast, so I can check the demo for you

Thanks for the offers guys. I will hopefully get back to it before the weekend.

Btw. your 66 Mhz 68060 are with FPUs, right? Because the Freescale docs only mention 60 Mhz 68060 with FPU.

Mine is a rare MC68060RC66 which is AFAIK the fastest full(FPU/MMU) PGA variant of the 060 CPU from Motorola.
OK just let us know when You'll be ready with it:)

Oh, that sounds nice. Do you know if they can still be bought somewhere? And for how much? I am considering replacing that broken bugger if those 68060RC66 CPUs are still available and the price is not astronomically high.

As for the demo, we are aiming for a release candiate at the weekend.

Mine is a 50MHz version which is overclocked to 66MHz, so it has an FPU. :)

If I were you (100% sure that my FPU unit is somehow crippled) then I'll go for >>this auction<<
Well it's "only" RC50 but you can easily overclock it without any problems as stated in the description.
And as for the seller, I bought mine RC66 from him before a year or two. So it depends whats astronomicaly high for you and if you need only a replacement(halve the price) or something better for even more speed(might also need a heatsink or faster 50ns simms)
Look for more 060 cpus from him. Ebay is the best place to have a look nowadays as you're not tied with minimum quantity purchase order like with freescale and resellers.
Or SAVE THE MONEY as the "real testers" are still there:)))
Hope this short info helps you to decide.

noname: if you like, you can send me (based in berlin/germany) your 1260 and i can replace the broken cpu with one of the "71E41J" i do have here as spare cpus. It won't be pricier as the cpu from ebay is. :) I can also offer some overclocking to 60MHz or 66MHz. It depends on the RAM, as the CPUs are easy to overclock. You will need some active cooling when running at that speed inside the a1200 desktop case though.

Desoldering that beast is not that easy, so take care to let it be done by a solder-experienced person anyway.

Wayne, thanks for the hint to the auction. I am seriously tempted.

Kasbah, thanks for offering help. I don't have a 1260 though, but a Cyberstorm MK1, which I wouldn't send through the post. If you could also send out CPUs, how much would you charge for one? And do I really need to do any desoldering? I thought the maximum I would need to do was to use a special tool to lift the CPU of the socket?

noname, of course there is no need to send off your cyberstorm. the cpu is usually installed in a socket and you can even lift it with some care without a special tool (this will damage the socket a little bit, but won't affect the functionality, if you are really carefully). sending out one of my spare cpus will cost 35 euros, shipping not included. feel free to contact me at sek at winfuture de for further details.
